Serious About Pilates? – Then You’re Going to Need Some Kit (Here’s what I recommend)

Swiss Balls

I’m always being asked for where to get the equipment I use in classes and sessions.  I’ve put together this list of items that I think you may find useful, and the things I recommend to my clients.

FOAM ROLLERS

I use these a lot with my 1-2-1 clients- but not in the usual way. They’re particularly good for bad backs, neck and shoulders. I recommend the longer ones as below. (If you want to know how to use them, then you’ll have to book some 1-2-1 sessions).  In fact, one of my clients has sworn that she managed to stop her migraines by using this in the way I taught her.

SPIKY BALLS

We use these a lot for our feet, shoulders and lower back.  They’re great for getting into the deep achy areas, and because they’re spiky it means it gets the blood flowing and makes the circulation system work harder. I recommend these, as you get three different sizes for various areas. Enjoy!

SWISS BALL

I love the swiss balls – they’re great for creating instability so you get more core activation and great for balance.  In the studio I have 55cm balls which are quite small, if you’re taller then I’d get a larger one (remember to change the size when ordering) either the M or L will be ok for the majority of people.

PILATES MAT

If you’re going to practice Pilates you really need your own mat. There are all sorts of prices and types of mats that you can get. I would recommend that you buy a decent one.  I’ve seen mats that absolutely stink because they’re covered in chemicals, I’ve seen ones that move when you’re trying to do standing work, I’ve seen ones move when you’re trying to balance work. So, it’s well worth investing a bit of cash and getting a good one.

I like this one because it’s eco friendly too.

BENDER BALLS

We use these regularly in classes and they’re great for getting some good core activation.  They’re also great for massaging achy necks and lower backs.

I’ll keep adding to this list as things change and I get asked for new products.  If you’ve got anything to add or any feedback then let me know.

Happy shopping! 🙂
